The rags to riches story of one of Northampton’s greatest philanthropists, local Freemason, Alfred Cockerill, has not received the recognition it deserves. His fascinating story will be related by Bob Farey at the Grey Friars Lodge White Table meeting starting at 6pm on Monday 16th December at Sheaf Close. Everyone is invited, including ladies and non-Masons.
In his day, Alfred Cockerill, was a well known local businessman and benefactor. He was also a senior Freemason, Past Master of Pomfret Lodge No 360 and Provincial Grand Treasurer. He gave the Province the beautiful stained glass windows that are now displayed in the bar lounge at Freemasons Hall, Sheaf Close, Northampton.
Despite achieving a pre-eminent status in Northampton during his lifetime and being a generous local benefactor, he is today a little known figure in the town’s history.
To find out more about this great man and great Mason come to Grey Friars Lodge on 16th December at Sheaf Close when WBro Bob Farey will enlighten us and our guests on the life and works of Alfred Cockerill.
Booking through Grey Friars Lodge Secretary, WBro Ian Nelson.
