Peterborough Masons Support Gold Medallist

Peterborough rower James Fox is pictured being interviewed after winning gold in the Mixed Coxed Four on Sunday 11th, day four of the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Earlier during his career, Peterborough Masons raised £400 so as to allow James to compete at Munich. The money was presented to his mother, Clare, who was working at the Peterborough Masonic Centre at the time. The original story was reported in the summer issue of Password back in 2010.

At the time the donation was made James was able-bodied and representing the GB rowing team. However, at the age of 18 years, James was involved in a car accident resulting in two broken vertebrae in his lower back and restricted movement in both ankles. As a result of this he was unable to train fully for two years. James subsequently discovered that he was eligible for the para-rowing squad after his coach, Brian Young, attended a coaching conference.

It's nice to know that Freemasonry has helped James on his journey to Paralympic glory!
