On 11 July 1984, Palmer Court opened its doors for the first time and on the same date this year the scheme held an informal 30th birthday party. Those invited were people who had been involved over the years. They joined the present residents for a lunchtime buffet.
The Chairman, WBro John Rivett gave a short talk about the history of Palmer Court and spoke of RWBro Peter Palmer's involvement at the beginning. He then introduced the various guests present, including WBro Stanley Wilford, Chairman for over 20 years, and his wife Jessie who was on the original House Committee.
There were a number of representatives of local Lodges, all of which had recently made donations that had been spent on new furniture for the communal lounge. When this was explained, the residents thanked them with a hearty round of applause.
Finally, a 30th anniversary birthday cake was cut by Mrs Dorothy Myers, who at 87 has lived at Palmer Court for 27 years - longer than any other resident.
