Just over 100 Brethren helped WBro Peter Jones celebrate reaching 50 year as a Freemason at the meeting of Grey Friars Lodge on Monday 28 April. The ProvGChStwd, WBro Gerry Crawford, had the honour of presenting WBro Peter with his Certificate.
Earlier in the month in his mother Lodge - the Lodge of Remembrance No 4037 in Swindon - he had received a Jubilee Certificate from the Provincial Grand Master of Wiltshire, RWBro Francs Wakem.
With his lifelong friend WBro Dennis Rideout, he was initiated in the Lodge of Remembrance on 1st April 1964. He progressed through the various offices and became WM in 1981.
His work in the house building industry took him to Northampton and became a joining member of Grey Friars Lodge No 4990 on 25 March 1991.
On 3rd August 1992 he became a founder member of Sulgrave Lodge which meets at Rushden and became its WM in 2001.
In a distinguished Masonic career an important event was his appointment as the Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Wiltshire on 7th October 2004.
He achieved Grand Rank in 2004 and was promoted in Grand Rank to Past Senior Grand Deacon in 2005.
In presenting his Certificate and wishing him the hearty congratulations of everyone in the Province and especially those present, WBro Gerry Crawford said
You have lived in Swindon for much of your life but that has not hindered your enjoyment of Masonry in this Province. Over the years you must have travelled many thousands of miles back and forth between Wiltshire and Northamptonshire. The Province as whole, and Grey Friars and Sulgrave Lodges in particular, are extremely grateful for the loyalty and dedication you have shown over the years and we wish you many, many more years of enjoyment in Freemasonry as you work towards your 60 years certificate.
At the following Festive Board there was the Lodge’s traditional celebration of St George with much flag waving and patriotic singing. All in all a very excellent evening of Freemasonry.
