Gentlemen's Sporting Lunch Maintains Its Winning Ways

Building on the success of the 2010 Gentlemen's Sporting Lunch and Auction, a similar event was held at Northampton on 8 April.

The event certainly achieved its two main aims of providing enjoyment and raising money for charitable purposes.

A packed audience enjoyed an excellent meal followed by an auction of sporting memorabilia conducted by the award winning comedian, Russ Williams.

A framed display of badges from every UK racecourse, alone raised £1,250.

Total proceeds of the auction amounted to £2,815.

Premiership referee and Freemason, Peter Walton, then amusingly recounted some of his experiences as a referee.

He answered many questions from the floor on issues of current interest in football and spoke of footballing personalities with whom he has come into contact..

Next, David (Piggy) Powell, Northampton Saints RFC President and former England and British Lions player relived some of his (often turbulent) adventures on the rugby field.

The afternoon was concluded with a very well received performance by professional entertainer and comedian, Russ Williams.

The whole afternoon was superbly compèred by the "voice of Franklins Gardens" Bro Geoff Allen.

Over £6,000 was raised for the 2013 RMBI Festival.
