The death of a stalwart of Northampton Freemasonry is reported. EComp George Short died in Northampton on 27 June 2011, aged 86 years, after suffering ill health for some time. He had spent the latter part of his life at St John's Care Home in Northampton. He was born and educated in Stockport. After serving in the RAF he undertook teacher training and, for most of his life, taught mathematics and physical education in schools in the Northampton. He was a keen sportsman and represented the County of Northampton at tennis and hockey. In his later years he took up golf. |
Initiated into St John's Lodge No 3972 on 18 January 1960, he was its organist for 18 years and its Worshipful Master in 1974. He became a ProvGStwd in 1976, PPGReg in 1980, PPJGW in 1989 and PPSGW in 1990.
In 2010 he was presented with his Jubilee Certificate marking his 50 years in Freemasonry.
He was exalted into St John's Chapter No 3972 on 17 February 1971 and promoted to the Grand Rank of PAGDC in 1996. His musical talents benefitted the Holy Royal Arch in 2005 when he helped produce a CD of the music and chants associated with the (then) new Holy Royal Arch Exaltation Ritual.
Freemasonry will be the poorer for his passing. He will be sadly missed.
