79 Miles Walk for Children's Smiles

Between Sunday 6 and Friday 11 May May 2012 WBro George McGarry of Corbie Lodge No 9155 completed the 79 miles long walk from Fort William to Inverness, known as the Great Glen Way. In doing so he raised funds to help a children's charity to bring back smiles to many of the children it supports.

He undertook the walk in support of Scotty's Little Soldiers, a charity dedicated to supporting children whose fathers have lost their lives in military service. The charity was founded in 2010 by Mrs Nikki Scott, a mother of two young children, who lost her husband, Lee, in Afghanistan in 2009. The aim of Scotty's is to provide holiday breaks and other support for bereaved families.

The charity has now been able to purchase and equip the first of what is hoped will be a number of holiday homes for the families to use, giving invaluable help and comfort to them as they come to terms with the loss of a father.
